Know Your Rights is a project of the Global Labour Research Centre. The project has its origins in a booklet entitled Know Your Rights: A Guide to Ontario’s Workplace that was first developed and published in 1998 by the Centre for Research on Work and Society at York, in conjunction with York’s Labour Studies Students’ Association. Using this booklet as a guide, the Know Your Rights factsheets were first developed in 2010 by a committee of undergraduate students from the Work and Labour Studies Program, along with Professors Stephanie Ross and Mark Thomas, and in consultation with the Toronto-based law firm Cavalluzzo Hayes Shilton McIntyre and Cornish. The 2017 editions of the Know Your Rights factsheets were prepared by Professor Stephanie Ross (McMaster University), Professor Mark Thomas, and York University graduate students Rawan Abdelbaki, Lacey Croft, and Loren March, with contributions from Rob Halpin (Ontario Federation of Labour), Mary Gellatly and Alec Stromdahl (Parkdale Community Legal Services) and Dan McGarry (Seneca College). The GLRC would like thank all past and current contributors to the Know Your Rights project.
