Korean-Canadian Studies Graduate Workshop (Virtual)

Call for submissions

Korean Office for Research and Education (KORE) invites graduate students and recently completed graduate students working in the area of Korean-Canadian Studies to present and discuss their research at a half-day workshop hosted virtually at York University on either the 12th or 13th of January (TBC). The topics are open but must be relevant to the study of the Korean-Canadian diaspora. Themes may include Korean-Canadian experiences, history, transnationalism, migration and integration, community and society, culture, identity, and family, among others. Students studying inside and outside of Canada are welcome to submit relevant abstracts. Applicants must be current graduate students or have completed graduate studies in 2020 or later.

For the workshop in January, students must submit a sole-authored paper of 40 pages or less by 16 December 2022 and present it during the workshop. Joint-authored papers with other graduate students may be considered. Papers can be an unpublished journal-length article or course paper, a full proposal of a master’s or doctoral thesis, or a thesis chapter. Students selected for the workshop will receive a small honorarium.

  • Submit 500-word extended abstract and CV by Friday 21 October 2022 [Machform]
  • Notification of acceptance by 28 October 2022
  • Submit paper by 16 December 2022 (see criteria above)
  • Present online on 12 or 13 January 2023, final date to be confirmed

The Korean Office for Research and Education (KORE) is a collaboration of Korean scholars at York University, Toronto, Canada. KORE’s mandate is the promotion of a new, critical, comparative and transnational Korean studies. Drawing from the expertise of Korean scholars at York as well as other stakeholders and academic partners in Eastern Canada, KORE aims to play a leadership role in directing cutting-edge research and facilitating intellectual exchanges. KORE also supports teaching initiatives at York University.
