This time we are taking an entertaining and slightly idiosyncratic look at sports history to mark the Pan Am games in Toronto. The series—now in its fifth year–is a partnership between ActiveHistory.ca and the Toronto Public Library, founded and curated by former students in York University’s Graduate History Program.
Bruce Kidd: Toronto: The Cradle of Women’s Sports
It took until after WWI before women’s sports got off the ground in Canada. Dr. Bruce Kidd (University of Toronto Scarborough), former Olympic athlete, explores how a small group of Toronto women created local and provincial organizations and the Women’s Amateur Sport Federation of Canada, and won Canadian women the right to enter international competition.
