Gabrielle Slowey
Associate Professor – Faculty of Political Science, Director of the Robarts Centre for Canadian Studies
Professor Slowey is an esteemed member of the Faculty of Political Science at York University, and she has served as Director of the Robarts Centre since 2015.
In 2016 Professor Slowey was named the inaugural Fulbright Fellow in Arctic Studies at Dartmouth College. She will take up this chair in the winter term 2017. While away, Professor Anna Hudson will be interim director of the Robarts Centre.
Professor Slowey specializes in the field of Indigenous politics and her research concentrates on the political economy of resource extraction, unconventional oil and gas, democracy, land claims and self-government. She has been working with and in Indigenous communities for nearly 20 years and has published in numerous books and scholarly journals.
For her great accomplishments and contributions to Canadian Indigenous research and the broader field of Canadian studies, we are proud to announce Professor Gabrielle Slowey as our Associate of the Month for December 2016!
