Upcoming Event: The Intimacies of Asian Publics

On February 3rd, York University will be hosting a talk from Professor Christine Kim from the Department of English at Simon Fraser University.

When: Friday, February 3rd, 2017, 3:00-4:30pm

Where: Room 280N, York Lanes, Keele Campus

Professor Kim will be discussing complex formations of publics, particularly for Asian Canadian participants, and how we are able to feel for and within them. In the first part of the talk she will be looking at Korean diasporas in terms of minor publics by turning to two art projects by Vancouver-based artist David Khang. The second part turns to literary and cultural representations of North Korea to consider how global intimacies can also be produced through exclusion, with a focus on Shin Dong-Hyuk’s Escape From Camp 14.

This event is presented by the Robarts Centre for Canadian Studies (RCCS), the Department of English, the Department of Humanities, and the York Centre for Asian Research (YCAR).

This a free event, and all are welcome to attend! We hope to see you there!
