Winnipeg- based, Métis multidisciplinary artist Jaime Black will be introducing her week-long residency at WGSI (Women and Gender Studies Institute), University of Toronto. Co-produced by Dr. Karyn Recollet and Melissa Nesrallah, the residency which features the installations The REDress Project (2010) & Conversations with the Land (2016) explores the complexities of history, gender, place, identity and resistance through artistic mediums of photography, sculpture, print, and installation.  

The Opening Gathering which begins at 5pm will feature an opening song, territorial acknowledgement, speakers, artist talk, & the opening of a silent auction highlighting Indigenous artists Christi Belcourt, Kent Monkman, Elizabeth LaPensée, Nadya Kwandibens and other prolithic Indigenous artists. 

“I wanted to find the places where we are strong, to remember and honor the ties we have to the land.  For me, the land is where I remember my strength and find connection and healing” (Black, 2016).
