The Odessa Prize in The Study of Canada was established by Irvin Studin, a York alumnus and former Rhodes scholar. Mr. Studin was the editor of What is a Canadian? Forty-three Thought-Provoking Responses (Douglas Gibson Books, McClelland and; Stewart, 2006). The son of Russian-Jewish immigrants, the book is dedicated to his parents, who were from Odessa. The Odessa Prize was made possible by the generous donation of profits from the sale of the book.
