Amrita Daftary is Assistant Professor at the School of Global Health, York University. She applies social science
methods and frameworks to study TB stigma and treatment adherence, particularly in the contexts of TB-HIV comorbidity and drug resistant TB. She contributes to the design and evaluation of complex interventions to inform
equity and person oriented approaches to programming for TB and HIV-associated TB. Much of her research is inter
disciplinary and based in South Africa as well as India. She is also involved in several global activities.
Amrita holds adjunct appointments at the Centre for the AIDS Programme of Research in South Africa at University of
KwaZulu-Natal, with whom she has collaborated since 2005, and the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at University of
Toronto, where she completed her PhD. She also works closely with a number of public health, multilateral, community
organizations, and TB advocacy groups. Amrita is a Founder and Director of SSHIFTB, a social science focussed TB
centre connecting a global network of scholars, learners and advocates.
