We are pleased to announce Tania Das Gupta (Equity Studies) as the 2020 recipient of the YCAR Research Collaboration Fellowship. Das Gupta and Sugandha Nagpal (O.P. Jindal Global University) received the Fellowship for their collaboration on a project titled COVID-19 and Punjabi Migration. Through their project, they will apply a transnational lens to interrogate the impact of COVID-19 on migration discourses and interactions across Punjab and Toronto. How do Punjabis construct migration in the post-COVID-19 world? What are their transnational economic, social and political interactions? What are their plans and imaginaries of social mobility?
As the Fellowship exists to support intensive collaborations between a YCAR Faculty Associate and one of their research partners at another research institution, the in-person collaborative work is anticipated to begin in May 2021.
Das Gupta has worked extensively on issues of South Asian diaspora, race and racism and immigration issues. Nagpal is York University alumna who has conducted extensive ethnographic research in Punjab on issues of gender, migration and social mobility.
The YCAR Research Collaboration Fellowship allows a collaborator (usually from Asia) to visit Toronto for the specific purpose of working on a research proposal, project or publication. It provides up to a maximum of C$4,000 in reimbursement for travel and accommodation expenses incurred by the visitor. Visitors will usually spend one to three months in Toronto. This opportunity is adjudicated by the YCAR Executive Committee. The next deadline is Friday, 21 May 2021 by 4pm.
