Recipient of the President’s University-Wide Teaching Award in the senior full-time faculty category, Dr. Patrick Alcedo is a dance researcher, a specialist on Philippine traditional dances, and an award-winning documentary filmmaker. He is the Chair of and Professor in the Department of Dance at York University. The Republic of the Philippines’ Office of the President conferred on him in the Pamana Presidential Award. That same year, from among more than 300 nominees, he was named one of Canada’s Top 25 Canadian Immigrant Awardees.
Among Dr. Alcedo’s recognitions are a Rockefeller Humanities Foundation Fellowship at the Smithsonian Institution, an Early Researcher Award from the Government of Ontario, and a Selma Jeanne Cohen Award for International Dance Scholarship from the Fulbright Association of America. A former member of the Filipiniana Dance Group of the University of the Philippines, Diliman, he performed at various dance festivals in Manila, France and Germany.
