Born and raised in Toronto, Keefer received his BA and MA at Western University where he studied psychology, criminology and sociology. He is currently exploring how different neoliberal ideologies are constructed by, and help to construct, cultural-ideological subjectivities of the individual and their environments. Currently, the roles that transnational pathways, globalization and cultural norms have played in such constructions from China’s socialist universalism to individual self aggrandizement is of particular interest. Being situated “in-between” as both “Chinese” and “Canadian,” Keefer has become fascinated by how neoliberal forms of globalization are embedded within different spaces, temporalities and cultural norms, and how such processes have implicated his agency in particular ways, while simultaneously perpetuating broader discourses surrounding knowledge production and diasporic identity.
