Milan Kang (she/her) graduated summa cum laude from Gender and Women’s Studies at York University in 2021 and commenced her MA in Sociology the following year. Believing that truth lies behind appearances, she strives to read between the lines. Prior to moving to Canada, she spent over a decade working in TV and film production in Seoul, South Korea. Upon her arrival in Toronto, Milan actively engaged in queer Korean organizing, supported non-profits for marginalized groups, and participated in student unions and labor rights movements. Her extensive experience with diverse communities from Korea to Canada has led her to focus her research on Korean feminist and queer activism, aiming to contribute to the establishment of Anti-Discrimination Laws in South Korea. Since September 2023, Milan has been contributing to the nationwide research project “2SLGBTQ+ Poverty in Canada: Improving Livelihood and Social Wellbeing,” particularly within the qualitative team and the Data Analysis Working Group. Serving primarily as a research assistant, she also utilizes her media skills as a video editor on the project’s official YouTube channel.
