Virtual Filipino and Indonesia language courses open to Canadian grad students

YCAR is pleased to be a part of the Canadian Southeast Asian Studies Initiative / Initiative canadienne pour l’étude du sud-est asiatique (CSEASI/ICESEA), which is offering synchronous online language courses open to graduate students across Canada.

The courses are hosted by the University of Victoria, which is home to CSEASI/ICESEA, which is funded by the Henry Luce Foundation. Besides excellent learning experience students enrolled in the class can apply for a bursary of up to $300 to offset their tuition.

Synchronous Online Classes

Fall 2024: Introduction to Filipino I (PAAS125)

Spring 2025: Introduction to Filipino II (PAAS126)

Enrolling is easy!

1. Ask your university to send a Letter of Permission to University of Victoria Admissions. More information at this link.

2. Apply for Visiting Student status at the University of Victoria. Apply at this link.

3. Enroll in PAAS125 (Intro to Filipino I) and PAAS126 (Intro to Filipino II)

Attend live online classes and learn to speak, read and write in Filipino!

The deadline to apply for Visiting Student Status is 30 April 2024. Not an early bird? No worries, we’ve got you covered! You have until 09 August 9 to submit your application, noting a late fee of C$40 applies.

The classes will meet Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 15:00 to 15:50 PST. Semester dates are available at this link.

Tuition: $620/semester (domestic) + visiting student fee ($80).

5. Continue your journey and enroll in PAAS 220 (Intermediate Indonesian I) and PAAS 221(Intermediate Indonesian II)
