As Asia faces escalating climatic challenges—rising sea levels, extreme weather events, and depleting natural resources—exacerbated by rapid urbanization, deforestation, and resource extraction, YCAR’s Climate Dystopias in Asia lecture series and research group explore the social, political, and environmental impacts of climate justice. We invite internationally recognized speakers, faculty members, and graduate students to present their research and examine how deepening inequalities, displacement, political instability, and resource conflicts are interconnected with climate change. Through a climate and environmental justice lens, the series highlights how marginalized communities and rural populations disproportionately bear the burden of climate change, a situation further intensified by authoritarian regimes and capitalist accumulation.
