In our latest Asia Research Brief YCAR research associate, Colin McGuire, writes about the ways in which the Chinese lion dance operates as an embodied form of resistance in the Chinese diaspora in Canada. Using the example of Toronto’s Hong Luck Kung Fu Club in the Spadina/Dundas Chinatown, McGuire provides an analysis of how music, ritual, dance, and martial arts come together to create a unique form of resistance.
