External Research Associates include individuals whose primary affiliation is outside of York University, with universities and other educational institutions, governments, the private sector or nongovernmental and not‐for‐profit organizations, and who are actively involved in research on Asia or an Asian Diaspora, as defined by the YCAR mandate. They must be undertaking, collaborating in or developing a research project or initiative associated with YCAR and/or the YCAR Faculty Associate supporting the application (which can include active involvement in graduate student research). The External Research Associate category is also open to part-time instructors at York University, and to former YCAR Graduate Associates who have completed their programs at York but wish to stay associated with the Centre. The length of term of an External Research Associate shall be decided on a case-by-case basis and may be renewed.

YCAR will contact you after we have received your completed application to confirm receipt and/or if we require additional information before considering your application. All applications go before the YCAR Membership Committee, which meets four times per academic year: 15 January, 15 March, 15 June and 15 October. Applications will be reviewed shortly after each deadline. Please note that the Membership Committee will not review applications outside of these time periods.
