Lucia Lo is Professor Emerita of Geography at York University. Her research focuses on the role of immigrants in economic development and urban transformation. Trained as an economic geographer in the spatial science tradition, Lo has brought innovative perspectives to examining immigrant integration and settlement issues such as the geographies of immigrant consumption, and the geographic match in settlement services. Her current research project, titled Intellectual Migration: The China-Canada-US Dynamics, is an internationally based comparative project that aims to understand the dynamics underlying global knowledge and human capital flows. Arguing that intellectual migration occurs along a spectrum where migration stages intersect with life transitions, the project examines how higher education students and highly skilled professionals engage migration as a means to acquire, upgrade and/or utilize intellectual capital for the purpose of career advancement or upward social mobility.
