I am a doctoral candidate in Sociology. My doctoral research explores questions of identity and belonging among the Indian diaspora in Canada along the cultural conduit of humour. I look at how humour can foster a performance of long-distance nationalism and how the diasporic Indians’ political identities are situated within this. Before joining graduate school in Canada, I was an editorial journalist and hence, I am keen on contributing to public sociology. I am an active member of the Canadian Sociological Association and I have also started a specialized research cluster on South Asia at the Canadian Sociological Association. It fosters intellectual dialogue between scholars who focus on South Asia in their work and is open to anyone.
