Journalist P. Sainath travelled to villages in India to talk to the ordinary people in the last years of their lives who fought for Indian Independence. This work is a window on the theme of this discussion: how to conduct historical research about the extraordinary actions of unknown people.
P. Sainath is the founder-editor of the People’s Archive of Rural India (PARI). He has served as a journalist, reporter, rural affairs editor, and deputy chief editor of periodicals like The Hindu, Blitz, and The Daily. He has won over 60 national and international awards. His book Everybody Loves a Good Drought (1996) is now in its 58th reprint. The Last Heroes: Foot Soldiers of Indian Freedom (2022) is his latest publication.
