Job Description:
Job Purpose
The Science Recruitment Lead falls under the Science Academic Services department and is one of the primary sources of academic support to Science students at York University. Under the direction of the Science Recruitment Coordinator, the Science Recruitment Lead will provide support for projects and participate in the organization and execution of recruitment events.
Major Areas of Responsibility
- Lead campus tours for prospective and current students.
- Assist with the creation and delivery of effective outreach programs including recruitment presentations, information sessions, and discussion panels.
- Promote awareness of resources on campus to support first-year student transition.
- Provide front-line customer service at the information desk and respond to enquires.
- Keep the information desk organized and materials replenished
- Acts as an ambassador and role model by helping students navigate York University’s processes and procedures.
- Assist with planning and implementing program initiatives, orientation activities and campus events.
- Create program and event materials.
- Develop website and social media to share ideas with students, provide information and promote events.
- Conduct research and provide input on projects related to campus tours, events and recruitment initiatives.
- Collect and document program data, evaluations and participation information.
- Assist with special projects and administrative duties.
- Attend and participate in regular team meetings.
- Motivate and act as a team lead to Recruitment & Campus Ambassadors.
This position reports directly to the Science Recruitment Coordinator and works in cooperation with the Science Academic Services team.
Student Learning Outcomes
Orientation and Training and Ongoing Professional Development
- We offer training for new Science Recruitment Leads. This training includes topics such as expectations for the role, event planning, tours, email communications and Science Student Ambassador Program. The Science Recruitment Lead will have regular meetings with their supervisor and receive project-specific training as necessary.
- Ongoing support and professional development will also be provided throughout the role.
Feedback, Ongoing Support and Reflection:
- The Science Recruitment Leads will have a regular in-person meeting with their supervisor, at which the Science Recruitment Lead will provide an update on the status of the projects they are working on and identify any challenges they are facing. This will help develop and support their collaborative work skills by providing opportunities to articulate areas where support is required and potential solutions.
- The Science Recruitment Leads will be asked to participate in a self-assessment and performance review process with their supervisor each term. In addition, the supervisor provides feedback during regularly scheduled meetings as challenges and successes arise.

Qualifications:
Education & Experience
- Faculty of Science student (any major)
- Experience and familiarity with York (Keele) campus life
- Previous experience in a customer service environment an asset
- Previous experience in event planning and public speaking an asset
