Objective
The program goals are to:
- Advance the science, technology and implementation of rain enhancement and
- Increase rainfall for water security in the UAE and other arid and semi-arid regions.
The program objectives are to:
- Enhance the level of research and innovation in the field
Increase the level of research activities and funding globally, including attracting new researchers, technologists and entrepreneurs to the field, leverage program funding through matching and in-kind investments from participating entities.
- Advance scientific understanding of rainfall enhancement
Obtain new scientific understanding of cloud physics and dynamics, cloud-cloud interactions, cloud systems, precipitation production, and other relevant physical processes. Additionally, consolidate current knowledge and understanding through archival and sharing of experimental data, sponsored symposia, and the like.
- Advance the technological and methodological state-of-the-art in rainfall enhancement practice and operation
Make both the latest and historical high-quality experimental data, available to researchers and spur the analysis and re-analysis of the data with multiple, state-of-the-art techniques. Add to the technology base for cloud seeding with testing of materials and delivery methods. Demonstrate improved Ncloud modeling capabilities.
- Enhance and further develop capacity in the field both locally and globally
Develop local and regional capacities for meteorology, water and environmental R&D and additional workforce capacity for scientific and technical fields in general. Spur global research collaborations in the region and the deployment of infrastructure for meteorology, water and environmental R&D.
Eligibility
Domestic or foreign, public or private, non-profit or for-profit organizations are eligible to receive this grant and, in rare occasions, individuals. All entities must clearly demonstrate their access to facilities and infrastructure to carry out the proposed project and agree to the fiscal arrangements that the UAE requires to prove the ability to responsibly manage the grant funding.
How to Apply
York University researchers are reminded that all applications for external research funding, including Letters of Intent, must be reviewed and approved by the Office of Research Services before they are submitted to the granting agency. For internal approval, the application must be accompanied by a completed ORS Checklist, which requires the Dean’s signature. Please send the complete application, with the finalized budget and a completed ORS checklist to sciapps@yorku.ca, five days prior to agency deadline.
ORS is accepting electronic applications – the process is outlined here.
