Hugo Chen

Hugo Chen is the Director of International Collaborations and Partnerships in the Faculty of Science. Hugo is responsible for developing and managing overseas collaborations and partnerships between the Faculty of Science and international institutions, and accelerating international student recruitment efforts.

Fun fact: I’ve had the experience of jumping into a lake when the outside temperature was -18 Celsius. Support the Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Ontario in the coolest way possible.

Mingming Li

Mingming Li joined York Science International Initiative team in October 2021. Her role supports the planning, development and implementation of strategies for international undergraduate recruitment, and conversion and marketing through partnerships and collaborations.

Mingming holds a Master of International Business from Macquarie University in Australia. She worked as an International Admissions Officer at Cambrian College. Before immigrating to Canada, Mingming held a position as an International Educational Consultant at CIIC in China. Mingming currently serves as Committee Lead of Communications in the International Network of Tomorrow’s Leaders (INTL) for the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE).

Fun fact: I took my daughter to see the Hamilton broadway show in New York in 2019, just before the pandemic started.

Arghavan Sammak

Arghavan Sammak joined the York Science International Initiative team in September 2021. She is the Recruitment and Campus Ambassador Lead (GLYS) who helps with organizing and coordinating events, as well as new volunteers. Arghavan is a third-year Biomedical science student. Before joining the team, she was part of the Faculty of Science student organization.

Fun fact: I am a black belt Karate player and I do some hands-on art as well.

Ziping Wu

Ziping Wu joined the York Science International Collaborations and Partnerships team in November 2021. He is an international student from China, majoring in Digital Media at York University. Reporting to the Director of International Collaborations and Partnerships, Ziping supports the development and execution of design deliverables. Ziping supports the creation of multimedia content such as photos, videos, infographics, and animations in the primary recruiting market.

Ziping graduated from Chongqing Maple Leaf International School in 2019. Ziping has worked in T.Y.Lin (Chongqing) International Engineering Technology Co., Ltd. and Chongqing Rail Transit (CRT) Operation Department as an intern.

Fun fact: I am a person with a musical sense, which means that I can play the melody directly through an instrument when listening to a song. I have learned guitar, electric guitar, drum set, bass, piano and other instruments by myself.

Gina Quan

Gina Quan joined the York Science International Initiative Team in October 2022. Gina is the Communication & Marketing Assistant; her role includes designing marketing content and helping with organizing and coordinating events, Gina a third-year Mathematics Education and Statistics student. Her hobbies include playing handball and recording vocal covers. Most importantly, Gina is 100% a foodie, especially boba! You might see her at one of the boba spots on campus!

Fun fact: I’m not a party extrovert. So, I like sports, board games, and music events.

Amna Imran

Amna Imran joined the York Science International Initiative Team in June 2023. She is the Recruitment and Campus Ambassador Lead (GLYS) her role includes helping with organizing and coordinating events, as well as new volunteers. Amna is a second-year Biology student. Before joining the team, she was a volunteer in Global Leader of York Science.

Amna has been very involved with the community. As of now she volunteers in multiple organizations which include a hospital, research project here at York University, and teaches various activities!

Fun fact: I enjoy being around kittens, late night drives, I can speak 4 languages, and aspire to be a dentist!

Tien Hoang

Recruitment & Campus Ambassador Lead

Tien Hoang joined the York Science International Initiative team in April 2024. She is the Recruitment & Campus Ambassador Lead and is enthusiastic about her role, which involves supporting recruitment and outreach initiatives including campus tours, recruitment presentations and orientation activities.

As a second-year student majoring in Statistics, Tien brings a strong analytical mindset and a passion for problem-solving to our team. Before stepping into this role, she actively volunteered in various capacities, including retirement communities and schools.

Fun fact: I have played badminton for more than 7 years and I am currently a member of the York badminton team. If you see me at Tait, feel free to come and say hi!

Amit Bijlani

Special Projects Assistant

Amit Bijlani joined the York Science International Initiative team in April 2024. He serves as a Special Projects Assistant and is responsible for providing administrative support for special projects and activities. Amit is a second-year biomedical science student, and he loves being involved in the community.

He enjoys playing basketball, developing websites and apps, and trying out new food spots. Additionally, he plans on becoming a doctor!

Fun fact: I was born on one of the islands in the Caribbean and can be seen in the background of one of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.
