Support Services

This section is designed to provide current students with information about the wide variety of support services available on campus. Mostly it brings together access to such services in one location.

Support services include peer advising and peer-assisted study groups (via Bethune College), career planning and employment opportunities, services for international students, and numerous university-wide offices for a wide range of services such as counselling and accessibility, human rights, leadership development, sports and recreation, etc.

This is a University-wide collection of resources to assist students in finding academic help through Colleges, peers, and tutors. Click here to access the Study Hub.

Bethune College is the “home” for Science students. Colleges exist to help make a big university feel small. They are a place to study, hang out, and participate in a smaller, more intimate setting. They are a place where you can feel at home.

Everyone is assigned to a college when they enter York based on either their program of study or the residence that they live in.  Students in the Faculty of Science, those in the Lassonde School of Engineering and those that are in the Bethune Residence are automatically members of the college.

Wish you could study for a class with a group of classmates but don’t know enough people in the course? With Peer Assisted Study Groups or PASS senior students (PASS leaders) who have previously done well in the course help students work together to achieve success.

At the Bethune Writing Centre students can seek help with academic writing. This includes proofreading, citations and references, and advice and feedback on graded work. Sessions can be one-on-one or in a group. It’s best to make an appointment!

SOS Peer Mentoring pairs first year students with an upper year student in the same program. Your peer mentor will help you make a smooth transition into life at York.

SOS Peer Tutoring provides students with extra help for specific courses on homework, assignments, test preparation and so on. There’s a schedule for each course but you can simply drop in.

Graduate peer mentors are either graduate students or alumni SOS Peer Leaders who guide and advise upper-year Bethune College students about their future aspirations.

All of the above services are free of charge.
