International Student Scholarship & Award Application
To be considered for the scholarships and awards at York University, you must submit the International Student Scholarship & Award Application. Students do not need an offer of admission to apply for York entrance awards and scholarships.
Note: Scholarship values are subject to change.
A 9-digit York reference number is required, which you will receive within 5 business days of applying to York. You must submit your application to York by the 2022 deadline date.
Full details will be available in the International Student Scholarship & Award Application form when it opens in mid-December.
Requirements:
- Must be an international student who is required to have a Study Permit to study in Canada
- Must have applied to an undergraduate degree program at York that begins in Fall 2022
- Must have applied to York directly from high school no more than two years after graduation, and have no previous university or college studies
- Must be nominated by their high school (schools may nominate one student only)
- The nominated student will be considered for the International Entrance Scholarship of Distinction, the Global Leader of Tomorrow Award, the International Circle of Scholars Scholarships, and the York University Academic Excellence Scholarships
- Candidates must speak to their school guidance counsellor, principal, or administration about the York International Student Scholarship & Award Application, and receive confirmation that they are the individual from that school who has been nominated
- The candidate must then provide the name, position, e-mail, and phone number of the nominator in the application form
- Must upload one letter of recommendation
- Must ensure all required documents are shown as “Received” in the York application (MyFile), by the 2022 deadline date.
York Science Scholarship Application
Given the prestige of the York Science Scholars program, its $10,000 financial component, and, perhaps most significantly, the experience provided by the summer placement, applicants to the York Science Scholars program have very competitive applications. Please begin the process of putting your application together very early. Please note that you may submit your application prior to receiving an offer of admission to York University’s Faculty of Science. Your Science Scholar Award application is assessed in parallel to your application to the Faculty of Science.
Please submit YSSA applications directly to the Faculty of Science either digitally or in hard copy by no later than March 20, 2022, at 11:59 PM.
Step One: Complete the application form

Step Two: Write your personal statements
Please read the guidelines carefully and choose two topics in which you are the most passionate about.
Step Three: Find at least two references
Choose references who know you well in a professional or academic setting and can write in regards to your character and qualities. Please include at least two but no more than three reference letters, only one of which is an academic reference (teacher). Your second reference can also be a teacher if they are from a non-academic setting (e.g. a coach, volunteer supervisor, etc). Each reference letter must be submitted with the reference letter form found here. References must be received by the application deadline date of March 20, 2022.

You are responsible for ensuring that these documents are submitted on time or your application will be at risk of disqualification.
Step Four: Prepare your resume
Please include all paid employment, volunteer experience and any involvement in clubs and activities.
