Graduate Programs in Science
Biology (MSc and PhD)
Graduate studies in Biology at York U are firmly based on cutting-edge research. We have over 60 faculty appointed to our graduate program including many award-winning and internationally recognized researchers.
Biotechnology (GDB)
The Graduate Diploma in Biotechnology is designed to provide professional preparation for graduates to fill current labor needs in the biotechnology sector and strengthen the Canadian economy. The program provides students with insight into the latest biotechnology theories, discoveries, and laboratory techniques as well as a practical foundation in the biotechnology industry.
Master of Biotechnology Management
The Master of Biotechnology Management focuses on how modern biotechnology management is performed and surveys the scientific, ethical, and societal contexts. The program is designed to appeal to students who hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Biological Sciences, Biotechnology, Life Science, or a related discipline, and have little to no work experience in Biotechnology.
Chemistry (MSc and PhD)
York’s Graduate Program in Chemistry offers a wide range of study and research leading to the MSc and PhD degrees. These include the areas of Analytical Chemistry, Atmospheric Chemistry, Biological Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Mass Spectrometry, and Physical Chemistry.
Mathematics and Statistics (MA, MSc and PhD)
Our department has several research groups with interests in many subfields of mathematics and statistics. Our graduate programs provide both depth and breadth of knowledge in mathematics and statistics to help students tackle challenging problems in theory and applications, and many go on to successful careers in academia, industry and public service worldwide. Our strongest students win various prestigious awards and scholarships, including NSERC, CIHR, OGS and QEII.

The Graduate Program in Physics and Astronomy focuses on a wide range of study and
research in the following areas: Astronomy & Astrophysics, Atomic, Molecular & Optical Physics, Biological Physics, Chemical & Condensed Matter Physics, Earth, Atmospheric, Space & Engineering (Planetary Physics), and High Energy & Particle Physics.
Lassonde Science Graduate Programs
Computer Science & Engineering (MASc, MSc, and PhD)
The programs focus on a range of sub-disciplines including real-time and concurrent systems; artificial intelligence, computer vision, graphics and robotics; biomedical engineering; micro/nanoelectronics networks; power and renewable energy systems software; and parallel algorithms and architectures.
Earth and Space Science (MSc and PhD)
The Graduate Program in Earth and Space Science is a multidisciplinary research program offered by the Department of Earth & Space Science & Engineering in partnership with the Centre for Research in Earth and Space Science (CRESS) at Lassonde.
