Objective

To support future generation of Canadian researchers in their pursuit to advance scientific knowledge in the following four areas:

  • Fundamental/basic cancer research;
  • Prevention;
  • Early translational cancer research, including preclinical research, i.e., before a treatment is brought to a patient, including, for example, cellular or animal models, biomarkers for diagnostics and prognosis and imaging;
  • Research studying the environmental causes of cancer including viruses, pollutants, work environment, lifestyle and diet.

The award consists of two parts covering a period of three years:

Part 1

This is a postdoctoral salary award to enable talented postdoctoral trainees to secure a faculty position in an eligible Canadian institution.  Applicants must have completed at least two years of postdoctoral training at the time they will accept the salary award on September 1st.

Part 2

This is an operating grant that is awarded once the applicant has obtained a faculty position at a recognized Canadian institution.

IMPORTANT: Applying for only one part of the award is prohibited.


Eligibility

Applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents for the duration of the award and must reside in Canada to receive Part 2 (Operating Grant) of the award. Proof of Canadian citizenship or permanent residence is required.

Applicants must be a postdoctoral fellow in a university or accredited institution and must commit to pursuing a research position in a university or accredited Canadian institution between January 1, 2025 and March 1, 2026.
