Objective

To support Discovery research projects that would significantly benefit from being assessed by a tri-agency interdisciplinary peer review committee, and aims to:

  1. Answer NSE research questions that are best addressed through interdisciplinary approaches.
  2. Advance NSE disciplines through cross fertilization and new ways of thinking about research questions, ideas and frameworks; approaches and methods; platforms, tools and infrastructure; people, partners and trainees.
  3. Provide leading-edge NSE training for highly qualified personnel (HQP) in interdisciplinary research environments.

Eligibility

There are no requirements with respect to team size or composition. However, individuals are only allowed to hold or apply for one Discovery Horizons grant as either an applicant or co-applicant.

Additionally, individuals participating in a Discovery Horizons grant as an applicant or co-applicant cannot hold both a Discovery Grant and a Discovery Horizons grant, however, if the Discovery Grant expires in 2025 or are automatically extended without additional funds, the individual may apply for a Discovery Horizon grant.

How to Apply

NSERC will be hosting following two webinars for the third edition of the NSERC Discovery Horizons pilot program.

York University researchers are reminded that all applications for external research funding, including Letters of Intent, must be reviewed and approved by the Office of Research Services before they are submitted to the granting agency.  For internal approval, the application must be accompanied by a completed ORS Checklist, which requires the Dean’s signature.  Please send the complete application, with the finalized budget and a completed ORS checklist to sciapps@yorku.ca, five days prior to agency deadline.

ORS is accepting electronic applications – the process is outlined here.
