All your steps for enrolling and participating in the Co-op Program are outlined below. Remember that work terms may look different for everyone; the option outlined below is just one example.
1st Year
Engage with your peers, professors, and academic advisors to keep up with your studies. Stay motivated and organized to keep your GPA strong. Remember, you need a cumulative GPA at 5.0 and a Major GPA of 6.0 to be eligible for the Co-op Program.
Keep an eye out for updates about Co-op Information Sessions in the Winter term. Information sessions are mandatory for any students who are interested in the Co-op Program.
Once you’ve attended an information session and you’ve received all of your grades from your 1st Year, you’re ready to submit your application! Make sure to read over all the requirements before submitting your application.
Once you’ve applied:
You will receive a copy of your application via the e-mail address you provided on the application form. We will review your application and send you your results via e-mail within 10 to 15 business days.
I got my acceptance e-mail! What are my next steps?
Congratulations! You will now be able to enroll in SC/COOP 2000 2.00 for the upcoming Fall term. This is a mandatory Introduction to Communications course that all co-op students need to take before they go on their first work term. This course is currently only offered in the Fall term.
2nd Year
Make sure you successfully complete SC/COOP 2000 2.00.
Once you’ve successfully completed SC/COOP 2000 2.00, you will be sent an e-mail confirming your next steps. You now need to attend the mandatory Resume/Cover Letter workshops before gaining access to the job board to start your job search. Start job searching for your Summer session co-op position as soon as possible.
If you were able to secure your first co-op work term*, enroll in SC/COOP 2001 0.0. This will be recorded on your transcript and will show that you’re on a work term over the summer.
*Ideally, students will take their first co-op work term in the summer after their 2nd year for 4 months (May – August). If, however, students find a work term that lasts longer than 4 months, please make sure to contact the EE Coordinator.
3rd Year
Return to school for full-time studies.
Continue your studies and start searching for your 2nd co-op work term for the summer session.
If you were able to secure your 2nd co-op work term*, enroll in SC/COOP 3001 0.00. This will be recorded on your transcript and will show that you’re on a 4 month work term over the summer session. If your work term is 8 months, you will enroll in both SC/COOP 3001 0.00 and SC/COOP 3002 0.00.
*Once students have completed their Fall/Winter studies in third year, they have more flexibility around choosing whether to work or study.
