York 201 – Black Excellence YU (SCLD + Learning Skills Services)
Are you excited to start university but don’t know what to expect? Join Black Excellence at York University (BE YU) at York 201, a transition session where you will learn about how BE YU can support you in your first year of university, what lectures are really like, and how to take the best notes to help you prepare for the first day of class! You will have the opportunity to practice your new note-taking skills during an engaging mini-lecture on Canadian Black History from York professor Dr. Maxine Wood, all while making connections and having conversations with fellow incoming students. Get ready for interactive presentations, practical exercises and collaborative discussions that will help you transition to university with ease.
Learning Outcomes:
- Meet the BE YU team and learn about BE YU programs and services.
- Describe the expectations of university learners and reflect on your current approaches to learning and studying.
- Learn note-taking strategies and practice taking notes during a mini-lecture.
