Putting the spotlight on student outcomes

Putting the spotlight on student outcomes

The SEP Student Services Stream is beginning a project aimed at capturing the voice of students in order to inform major projects and strategies in student services.

Extensive research with student services staff between December 2020 and March 2021 contributed to an important conversation about opportunities to improve student experience through design, structure, technology and culture.

The staff we spoke to brought great passion for potential improvements to the consultations and shared the many projects and initiatives that are currently underway to enhance student experience. Staff also identified a commonly missing piece in improving student services; a method for hearing directly from students on what they want and need from their time at York.

Moving the dial on the student experience requires the University to define and prioritize a set of student experience outcomes that major projects and strategies can be designed to achieve.

As such, the SEP student services stream will rapidly engage with students to identify the most important 4-5 student experience outcomes for York.

The stream is currently planning for student focus groups and seeking to engage students from a cross-section of the university’s student base.

If you work directly with a student who you think would contribute an important perspective to this conversation, please contact Tess Lawley from the SEP team via tlawley@yorku.ca.
