Assistive Technology Information Guide
By Raymond Peart & Rob Racanelli
The following document highlights some critical technologies used by students registered with Student Accessibility Services at York University. These technologies often refer to devices or services used to increase, maintain, or improve the capabilities of a student with a disability or accessibility need, and can often be helpful for other student groups.
Assistive technologies may have a significant effect in helping students with disabilities progress towards their academic goals. They can help in the following ways: (1) support students with completing tasks; and (2) overcome areas of difficulties. Another consideration is that for assistive technologies to be effective, they need to align with quality instruction. We recognize the great work that York Faculty continues to do in support of students.
