Integrating Technology in Education

This week’s blog features a two-part YouTube video. The conversation is really all about the integration of technology in education – how we might consider emergent technologies with intentionality and work to mitigate our fears when it comes to some of the things we might start seeing come out of the tech sector. Considering the idea that maybe it’s not about the technology, but the purpose-driven approach we take as a system of education to leverage technology in more meaningful ways (depending on who we are and what we are looking to achieve).

Patrick Thibaudeau: Patrick is the Director of IT Innovation and Academic Technologies at York University. He has held this central role in the University’s Information Technology department for over 8 years and for 17 years before that, he held a similar role at the University of Alberta. Patrick is an E-Learning expert, focusing on the integration of technology with purpose and intention within educational environments. His particular specialty is Moodle, an open-sourced learning management system that he is able to code-out and personalize for York’s particular student and instructor needs. Patrick’s diverse background includes time spent performing in both the dramatic and musical arts – giving him a unique perspective and open mind, that allows him to envision creative solutions and participate in the often unpredictable process of innovation.

Michelle Sengara: Michelle is the Director of Academic Innovation at York University in Toronto, Canada. She is also an accomplished education strategist and consultant. Michelle is at the forefront of technology-enhanced education, contributing to the research and design of synchronized systems for innovation that seek to re-imagine teaching and learning as a dynamic network of interactions, developing our innately human capacity for resilience and agility.
