FAQs
The latest release, NVivo 15, includes all the functionality of previous versions, plus new capabilities such as enhanced matrix coding and built-in AI to streamline your analysis. If you’re in the middle of a project, there’s no need to worry about compatibility. All NVivo projects are stored locally on your computer, so you can simply:
- Download and install NVivo 15 on your device.
- Activate using your license key or through your Lumivero Portal.
- Open your saved project file (it will automatically update to the NVivo 15 format)
Version-specific notes:
NVivo 14 to 15
- Project opens directly with no upgrade prompts.
- Cloud projects are automatically available in NVivo 15 and can be accessed using the Cloud Projects option on the welcome screen.
NVivo 12/13 to 15
- Users will see a project upgrade prompt the first time they open the project.
- Proceeding with the upgrade prompts the project to be converted for use in NVivo 15.
Additional notes:
- No action is required from administrators to upgrade projects.
- NVivo projects remain stored where users originally saved them; NVivo 15 does not move or change their file locations.
- When a user first launches NVivo 15, their projects will not appear in Recent Projects until they open them in this version.
- NVivo 14 cloud projects are automatically available in NVivo 15 and can be accessed via Cloud Projects on the welcome screen.
