York University’s dedication to social justice and equity has been recognized by the United Nations with a prestigious new role as United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) Hub Chair for Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 10 – Reducing Inequality. For the coming years, 2025-2027, York joins 20 international universities from 17 countries selected as Chairs and co-Chairs of other SDG Hubs – with York being one of two institutions representing Canadian higher education. This builds on York’s partnership with the wider United Nations system, and follows York hosting the first Canadian UNITAR CIFAL Centre in 2021, and was named academic lead of the UNITAR Global Water Academy in 2023.
