York University annually recognizes and celebrates faculty and staff who will have achieved, by the end of each calendar year, continuous service milestones in five (5) year increments, beginning at five (5) years of service.
Please refer to sections 1 through 3 of the University’s Service Recognition SOP for more details around eligibility and criteria used.
Service Pins
Commemorative York University Service Pins are available to departments/faculties to recognize employee service milestone years 5, 10, 15, and 20 only.
Departments/Faculties must order required service pins from the Office of the Vice-President Equity, People and Culture by completing the YorkU Service Recognition Pin Order Form. Only orders submitted using this order form will be accepted for processing. Service pin orders will not be accepted by phone or email.
Recognition Events
In accordance with section 4 of the University’s Service Recognition SOP, the recognition events for milestone years of service are as follows:
- 4.2 Employees who have reached 5 and 10 years of service will be recognized by their Management Supervisor/Director/Chair of their department with the presentation of a service recognition pin at a unit event or meeting.
- 4.3 Employees who have reached 15 and 20 years of service will be recognized by their Dean/Division Head with the presentation of a service recognition pin at a Faculty/Divisional event or meeting.
- 4.4 Employees who have reached 25, 30, 35, 40, and 45 years or more of service will be invited to a university-wide Service Recognition Reception and presented with a commemorative gift.
It is up to the discretion of each Faculty/Division to plan and execute recognition events as it relates to 4.2 and 4.3.
The university-wide Service Recognition reception takes place each spring and is jointly hosted by the President and Vice-President Equity, People and Culture. Eligible employees as noted in 4.4 will be contacted directly.
Digital e-Certificates (optional)
Digital e-Certificates (English and French) are available for service milestone years 5, 10, 15 and 20 to allow for electronic recognition until service pins are distributed. Use of digital e-certificates is optional.
