York University marks International Day of Persons with Disabilities

This year’s theme for the day, as set out by the United Nations, is “amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future.” It recognizes the important role that persons with disabilities play in creating a more inclusive and sustainable world for all. York’s Decolonizing, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy has many goals, including the maximal participation of all constituents in community life, including decision-making and leadership. Ableist barriers exclude the contributions of persons with disabilities to the detriment of communities as a whole, reducing the diversity of insights, talents and possibilities among us.
