Academic Innovation Fund (AIF)

Working together to make a difference

The Academic Innovation Fund (AIF) was established in the Fall of 2010 to support initiatives that advance York’s strategic priorities in relation to teaching, learning and the student experience. The AIF now has taken a somewhat more focused approach, addressing particular institutional priorities that are articulated in York’s University Academic Plan, Strategic Mandate Agreement and the Institutional Integrated Resource Plan: eLearning, Experiential Education, Student Success, and Internationalization.

AIF funded projects have allowed York to build pan-University strategies and systems supporting the further growth and development of curricular innovation through various forms of eLearning and experiential education. The fund has promoted the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) and facilitated the internationalization of the curriculum. Individual faculty members have benefited through curricular innovation grants. Many of our students are currently benefiting from these innovations. An early impact assessment study was commissioned by the Office of the AVP Teaching and Learning, which engaged Professor Les Jacobs, then-Director of the Institute for Social Research at York University.
