President and Vice-Chancellor Lorna R. Marsden hosted a reception Sept. 5 at Glendon College in honour of Francesco Scarlata, the outgoing Italian consul general.
The reception gave members of the York community an opportunity to say farewell to Scarlata and to thank him for his substantial support, through the Italian government, to the Italian section of the Department of Languages Literatures and Linguistics. Marsden spoke of her own gratitude for the generosity the consul general has shown to York University since he assumed his position in Toronto in September 1998.
Carlo Coen of the Italian Cultural Institute was also thanked for his role in coordinating the Italian government’s support for York University that resulted in the creation of new course offerings at York in Italian language and culture.
