The ORA is coordinating an information session to assist potential applicants in preparing their SSHRC MCRI proposals (details of the program below). Mark your calendars for Wednesday, Oct. 2, 10am – 12noon at 390 York Lanes.
This session will be led by Professors Stanley Tweyman (Humanities/Arts and Philosophy/Glendon) and Alan Blum (Sociology/Arts). Tweyman is currently on the adjudication committee for this program. Blum currently holds a SSHRC MCRI entitled “The Culture of
Cities”. Noli Swatman, director of the Office of Research Administration, will also be in attendance. This will be an interactive session with an opportunity for questions and answers.

OBJECTIVE:
To strengthen Canadian research capacity in the social sciences and humanities, with emphasis on promoting high quality research and training in a collaborative environment. The specific objectives of the program are to: promote collaborative research (including research networks), that meets international standards of excellence, as a central mode of research activity in the social sciences and humanities; provide opportunities for training students and young researchers in a collaborative research environment; strengthen collaborative research activity in the social sciences and humanities both within and between disciplines, increase collaboration with the other sciences, and promote the development of partnerships between universities and private and public sector groups; foster unique opportunities to collaborate in international research activities involving many research interests and agencies; and involve postsecondary institutions in long-term commitments for the development of unique large-scale research initiatives.

Up to $500,000/year.
DURATION:
Up to five years.
DEADLINES:
Nov. 30: Draft letters of intent be submitted to ORA
Jan. 17: Final versions of letters of intent be submitted to ORA
Jan. 31: Letters of intent must be postmarked to SSHRC.
NOTE: Updated program guidelines and requirements for the letter of intent will not available until October. Applicants are encouraged to begin their proposal based on the 2002 information, which is available from ORA upon request.
