Surprises are beginning to mushroom this year for Kristen Schooley. She was astonished to find out that she won the inaugural Nelson Writing Prize for her paper, "‘It’s a question of Belief’: the Possibility of a Third Space in Hiromi Goto’s Chorus of Mushrooms".
Her prize is $500 and a selection of books, and was awarded by the Nelson Thompson Learning publishing company.
Heather Smyth, the postdoctoral fellow who taught Schooley last year, said of the paper, "It was a fantastic paper, fully representative of all her work in my class, and she really deserves this award."
The company giving the prize said their judge was "impressed with your paper. Our judge is a long-time professor of English literature, and he commented that he learned a lot from your work."
