On Oct. 1, 2002, York published the first issue of Universe, the University”s first monthly magazine for students, faculty, staff and friends, to an appreciative audience.
Certainly not a typical university magazine, Universe is smart, unconventional and daring. It will offer intelligent, incisive and insightful articles on topics and issues that affect our community. It is meant to provide a look at the ordinary in ways that make us think and see differently, and promote a culture of new approaches and unexpected results.
While Y File is now the University”s “journal of record”, Universe provides a closer and deeper look at the York community. Readers will find articles about students who are pursuing success on their own terms, and profiles of graduates who have taken the top credentials they earned at York and applied them in ways we never would have imagined. You”ll read about the overwhelming talent of York”s faculty, staff and students exhibited through their prose, poetry and visual art. You”ll learn about some of York”s research, and creative and maverick approaches to real-world challenges that result in new models of thinking in Canada and beyond. You”ll find out about the people that make York the extraordinary institution it is.
Delivered monthly during the academic year to mailboxes throughout the University, Universe is also available on the campus news stands. Comments, work and participation are all welcomed from members of the York community.
