At its 492nd meeting held on Oct. 24, 2002, the Senate of York University:
— acclaimed individuals to vacancies on the following Senate Committees: Honorary Degrees and Ceremonials, Teaching and Learning, Tenure and Promotions;
— approved, as recommended by the Committee on Curriculum and Academic Standards: establishment of Graduate Programs in Humanities (MA and PhD), Faculty of Graduate Studies; the closure of the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Arts (Specialized Honours) Conservation and Environmental Studies degree programs, Atkinson Faculty of Liberal and Professional Studies;
— receiveda report from Professor Haberman on the Sept. 27, 2002, meeting of the Board of Governors;
— received a report from the Academic Colleague, Professor Dewitt on the Oct. 17 and Oct. 18, 2002, meetings of the Council of Ontario Universities;
— received a report from the Senate Academic Policy & Planning Committee including: a presentation on Appointments and Complement Planning from Vice-President Embleton; a presentation on the budgetary context for academic planning and the implications of recent provincial government funding decisions from Vice-President Brewer;
— noted a report for information from the Senate Academic Policy & Planning Committee on the: establishment of the Knowles Chair in Organizational Strategy at the Schulich School of Business; change of date for the Annual Planning Forum to Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003, at 3pm; distribution of synopses of APPC meetings to Faculty councils;
— noted a report for information from the Senate Executive Committee on the: vacancies on senate committees; examination scheduling for fall 2002; committee’s interim response to Action Committee; suggestions re: improving senate attendance; proposal re: election of members to Faculty-designated seats on senate committees; report of Sub-Committee on Honorary Degrees and Ceremonials;
— noted a report for information from the Senate Committee on Admissions, Recruitment and Student Assistance on: changes in criteria for Awards of Distinction; new awards approved; changes to names of existing awards.
