"The successful awarding of this project is strongly welcomed by the Faculty of Environmental Studies at York," said David Morley, dean of the Faculty. "The project follows the pattern of many of the Faculty''s successful projects in its emphasis on a collaborative approach to sustainability issues. The focus on water resources management in Brazil is particularly relevant."

Sgro said, "Managing water resources is crucial for sustainable development. By helping to develop knowledge and expertise on this issue in Brazil, Canadians will be able to share their experience for the greater good of the global environment, and for the benefit of the people of Brazil."

"York University, in cooperation with its Brazilian partners, is making sure that people in Brazil are able to influence the decisions that affect their daily lives." said Whelan.

This initiative is funded through CIDA''s University Partnerships in Cooperation and Development (UPCD) Program. For further details on this announcement, visit the CIDA Web site.
