Synopsis of the York University Board of Governors meeting

At its 376th meeting held on Dec. 9, 2002, the Board of Governors of York University:

  • Was introduced, by President Lorna R. Marsden, to Richard Fisher, the new chief communications officer;
  • Received a report from Vice-President Neuman on York is planning for the double cohort; Received a report from the Executive Committee on the following items approved at its meeting held Nov. 11, 2002, on behalf of the board of governors;
  • Concurred, on the recommendation of the Finance and Staff Resources Committee, with the agreement reached with CUPE 1356;
  • Concurred, on the recommendation of the Finance and Staff Resources Committee, with the agreements reached with CUPE 3903 Units 1, 2 and 3;
  • Agreed, on the recommendation of the Finance and Staff Resources Committee, to give CPM employees a three per cent increase in each of the three years 2002-2003, 2003-2004, 2004-2005 effective May 1 for each year, plus the same benefit improvements provided in the recent YUSA and CUPE 1356 settlements;
  • Approved, on the recommendation of the Academic Resources Committee, the establishment of the Henry J. Knowles Chair in Organizational Strategy and the CTV Professorship in Broadcast Management;
  •  Approved, on the recommendation of the Executive Committee, a revision of the terms of reference and mandate of the Academic Resources Committee to have a more strategic focus;
  • Approved, on the recommendation of the Executive Committee, a revision of the terms of reference and mandate of the Land Use Committee;
  •  Approved, on the recommendation of the Academic Resources Committee, the President's Report on Appointments, Tenure and Promotion;
  • Approved, the following items, on the recommendation of the Finance and Staff Resources Committee:
  • an increase in the deregulated tuition fee rate (excluding centrally collected ancillary fees and student referenda fees) for international students registered in the LLB program commencing September 2003 to be set at $6,000 per term or $12,000 on a program basis;
  • an increase in the deregulated program fee for new students registered in the part-time LLM PDP program to be set at $16,000 for two years or six terms of study at $2,666 for each of these six terms, effective Jan. 1, 2003;
  • an increase for domestic students, in the inclusive fee over two terms (including centrally collected ancillary and student referenda) for the deregulated MBA/IMPA/MPA programs to be set at $20,000 effective September 2004;
  • an increase for international students, in the inclusive fee over two terms (including centrally collected ancillary and student referenda) for the deregulated MBA/IMPA/MPA programs to be set at $25,000 effective September 2004;
  • an increase in the ancillary fees for undergraduate students and those full-time students enrolled in the MBA, IMBA, MPA and EMBA to be set at $15.58 for undergraduates, effective September 2003, and at $233.70 per term for students in programs for which this fee is charged on a per term basis;
  • an update of the Long Term Ancillary Plan;
  • Received information reports from the Executive, Academic Resources, Finance and Staff Resources, Land Use, and University Advancement Committees; and
  •  Moved in camera to deal with a confidential matter.
