Prof. Joseph Mensah, Atkinson School of Social Sciences, has recently had his book, Black Canadians: History, Experience, Social Conditions, published, in which he says that, despite Canadian progress toward multiculturalism and racial equality, there is a "colour line" in the job market.
This colour line continues to relegate most Blacks to low-paying, dead-end jobs, Mensah says, and excludes Blacks from some segments of the job market altogether. Further, he points his finger at the federal government, claiming it is "among the worst violators" of national employment equity policies. In his book, Mensah calls for greater enforcement of federal equity guidelines in the workplace.
