York forum to be aired on CBC’s ‘Quirks & Quarks’

The following is an excerpt of an account by Prof. Ron Pearlman, Department of Biology, Faculty of Pure & Applied Science, and associate dean, Faculty of Graduate Studies

. Pearlman organized a forum on genomics at York.

In mid-October, York hosted a very well-attended forum with three of the 2002 Gairdner International Award winners (Robert Waterston, Philip Green, and Craig Venter) as well as Francoise Baylis, a bioethicist at Dalhousie University. The forum was a discussion of genomics and in what direction the field is heading in the next decade.

The forum will be broadcast on CBC Radio’s “Quirks & Quarks” program, hosted by Bob MacDonald. The program will be aired on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003 at noon on CBC Radio 1.

During the “Quirks & Quarks” taping, there was mention of York, where the discussion took place, and acknowledgement of the University”s involvement, along with the Gairdner Foundation, in organizing the event.

The Gairdner Foundation is a non-profit corporation devoted to the recognition of outstanding achievement in biomedical research worldwide.
