Citizenship Studies Symposium inaugurates new media lab at York

The first Citizenship Studies Symposium at York University will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 8:30am-4pm, 214 Calumet College – the site of the new Citizenship Studies Media Lab. In fact, a reception following the symposium (4-6pm) will inaugurate the opening of the lab.

The symposium, organized by Engin F. Isin, York’s Canada Research Chair in Citizenship Studies, will feature 10 papers ranging from technological and cosmopolitan citizenship to diasporic and multicultural politics. Prof. Daiva Stasiulis, Carleton University, will deliver a keynote address, entitled "Reconfiguring Canadian Citizenship".

The Citizenship Studies Media Lab will serve as a research and training lab to collect, collate and classify information collected from various countries around the world on citizenship and human rights issues. It will also be a clearinghouse that will disseminate this information via Web publishing and database services. The Summer Institute and the Advanced Seminar on Citizenship Studies will both be held at that site.

There is no registration fee for this event. RSVP Dana Dawson, dgdawson@yorku.ca, if you wish to attend the reception.
