The Master”s Office, Atkinson Faculty of Liberal & Professional Studies, presented its fourth event in the Caribbean Writers Series with the appearance of writer Nalo Hopkinson, pictured left. Diana Cooper-Clark, master of Atkinson, sent Y-File the following account.
On Jan. 7, the last of the 2002-2003 Caribbean Writers readings took place at the Atkinson Faculty of Liberal & Professional Studies. Nalo Hopkinson, recent winner of the World Fantasy Award, read from her short story collection Skin Folk. Hopkinson is also the author of the novel Brown Girl in the Ring and Midnight Robber, as well as the editor of the anthology Whispers from the Cotton Tree Root: Caribbean Fabulist Fiction. In addition, she has been awarded the Ontario Arts Council Award for Emerging Writers and the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer. In 2003, the anthology Mojo: Conjure Stories, edited by Hopkinson, and her third novel, Griffonne, will be released.
The Jamaican lunch that followed the reading was another enormous success for what has been a remarkable series of readings.
