The Faculty of Environmental Studies 2002-03 Seminar Series “From Four Corners: Interdisciplinary Directions in 21st Century Environmental Studies” resumes on Thursday, January 30, 2003.
The scheduled talk “Environmental Justice at the Turning of the ‘Biotech Century'” by Giovanna Di Chiro has been postponed due to illness. In its spirit, we have put together an exciting panel of scholars from among the members of the FES faculty, who will speak, from their current research, to the topic of “Justice and Diversity: Perspectives from Environmental Studies.”
The four panelists/presentations are:
- Harris Ali, “The Walkerton Tragedy and the Rural Health Penalty”
- Liette Gilbert, “(De)naturalized Places, (Re)naturalized Identities”
- Ilan Kapoor, “Bringing Postcolonial Concerns and Politics to Development Studies”
- Dan Longboat, “Nation-Sanctioned Research: An Indigenous Community-based Research Method”
The panel discussion will be held in 109 Atkinson College (the Harry Crowe Room) from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, and will be followed by a wine and cheese reception. Participation in the lectures is public, open and free.
