The Canadian Psychological Association will present one of its top awards this year to York’s eminent vision researcher David Regan. The Donald A. Hebb Award for Distinguished Contributions to Psychology as a Science will be presented to Regan at the association’s annual meeting in June.
York''s distinguished research professor of psychology and biology has pioneered diagnostic eye tests for children’s eye disorders and adult diseases, and screening tests for vocational testing in aviation, driving and other occupations that demand excellent vision. He also played a critical role in developing instruments for cataract surgery. Regan is also a professor of ophthalmology and medicine at the University of Toronto, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and a Foreign Fellow of the Netherlands Royal Academy of Science.
York’s Psychology Department can now boast two Hebb Award winners. Regan joins Norman Endler, distinguished research professor emeritus of psychology, who received the award in 1997.
